Pune receives its water supply from the Khadakwasla Dam, which is then treated by PMC before being distributed to the city's residents. This daily supply of clean, high-quality water to millions of citizens has earned the recognition of the Central Government.

The Ministry of Jal Shakti took into consideration various water supply measures, initiatives, and sewage management systems before selecting Pune Municipal Corporation for the award.

Currently, 76% of households in Pune have access to tap water, with a daily water supply that lasts at least four hours. Each resident receives an average of 157 liters of water per day, which is 100% pure and safe for consumption.

Additionally, 43% of the water connections in the city are metered, and 85% of water-related complaints are resolved promptly. The water tax collection rate stands at 60%, showcasing efficient management by the civic body.

Pune has also achieved full toilet coverage in its residential areas, with a total of 619,822 toilets across the city. In addition, there are 194 public urinals available for use in various parts of the city.

The city has established a comprehensive sewage network, covering 98% of its area. Out of the total sewage generated daily, 75% is treated, and 60% of the treated water is reused for irrigation, construction, and gardening purposes.

This efficient management of water resources was highlighted in a proposal submitted by former Commissioner Vikram Kumar and Water Supply Department Head Nandkishor Jagtap.

Nandkishor Jagtap, Head of the Water Supply Department, remarked that the civic body is committed to providing high-quality water to all residents of Pune.

He emphasized that efforts are being made to ensure equal distribution and uninterrupted water supply through an equitable water distribution scheme.

Additionally, the corporation has been working to reduce water leakages and improve water conservation and sewage treatment measures, which played a key role in securing the national award.
