Pune: The Sinhagad Road police have apprehended a habitual offender and seized two pistols and four live cartridges from him during a raid in the Hingne area of Pune. Two minors who were with the suspect were also detained for further questioning.
The accused has been identified as 22-year-old Raj Ravindra Jagde, a resident of Wadgaon Budruk. Authorities confirmed that Jagde has a criminal background.
Acting on a tip-off that three individuals were standing on the canal road in Hingne with weapons, a police team led by Assistant Inspector Sachin Nikam and Sub-Inspectors Santosh Bhandwalkar, Swapnil Magar, Vinayak Mohite, and Shivaji Kshirsagar conducted a raid, detaining the suspects. A search revealed two firearms and four live rounds.
The police are now investigating the source of these weapons. Senior officers, including Deputy Commissioner Sambhaji Kadam and Assistant Commissioner Ajay Parmar, supervised the operation, which was executed by Senior Inspector Raghavendrasingh Kshirsagar of Sinhagad Road Police Station and Crime Branch Inspector Uttam Bhajanawale.
In a related incident two days earlier, the Pune Police Crime Branch team arrested Sajjan Sunil Jadhav, aged 19, in the Dias Plot area of Gultekdi for illegal possession of a country-made pistol and a cartridge.
Jadhav, a resident of Dange Chowk, Pimpri, originally hailing from Mahabaleshwar, was found with a locally made pistol and a cartridge. Jadhav is a known habitual offender with multiple serious charges filed against him at various police stations.
