Pune city was hit by an unexpected downpour on the eve of Dussehra, causing chaos among shoppers and vendors preparing for the festival. As Punekars ventured out to buy puja items, flowers, and other necessities, the sudden rain disrupted their plans.
Many roadside vendors selling marigold flowers, coconuts, and other festive materials were forced to cover their goods to prevent damage, with several suffering losses.
The rain, which lasted for about 20 minutes, hit areas including Kothrud, Bavdhan, Aundh, Sinhagad Road, Suncity, Shivajinagar, and Warje. Streets in these areas witnessed waterlogging, making it difficult for both shoppers and vendors to navigate.
The unexpected downpour not only inconvenienced the public but also severely impacted the flower sellers, many of whom saw their merchandise ruined.
Today being the last day of Navratri, several Garba and Dandiya events were organized across Pune. Participants adorned themselves in traditional outfits, such as intricately decorated ghagras, turbans, and dhotis, often embellished with decorative elements like glass pieces and pearls.
The events featured traditional Garba songs alongside popular film numbers, with many organizers bringing in renowned DJs to enhance the festive atmosphere.
However, the sudden rain disrupted these celebrations as well. The vibrant and excited young crowd, dressed up for the evening's festivities, found their plans dampened by the weather.
While Pune is known for its unpredictable weather, the intensity and timing of this rain have caused significant disruption, especially for those preparing for the Dussehra celebrations tomorrow.
