Pune: A traffic policeman was assaulted by a motorist in Pune’s Hadapsar area on Saturday (August 10) evening, leading to the arrest of one individual and the filing of charges against two others.

The incident took place in the Handewadi area when a traffic jam occurred, and the police were regulating the flow of vehicles.

The arrested suspect motorist has been identified as Maruti Rajaram Mane (22), a resident of Gopalpatti, Manjari. A case has also been registered against Sonu Patkar and another motorist in connection with this incident.

The complaint was filed by Police Constable Ajinkya Nangude of the Handewadi Traffic Division at the Hadapsar Police Station.

According to the complaint, Police Constable Nangude was regulating traffic in the Handewadi area on Saturday evening when there was a traffic jam.

Maruti Mane attempted to bypass the traffic by driving through the congested area. When Police Constable Ajinkya Nangude instructed him to stop, Mane and his companion, identified as Sonu Patkar, responded with verbal abuse.

The situation escalated when Mane kicked Constable Nangude in the abdomen and struck his hand with a hard object, resulting in an altercation. Another unidentified motorist also joined in the verbal assault.

Following the incident, the police swiftly arrested Mane on charges of obstructing a government officer and assaulting him. The investigation is ongoing under the supervision of Police Sub-Inspector Pawar.

On July 5, a drunk biker, identified as Sanjay Fakirba Salve (32), had attempted to set a female police officer and her colleague on fire using petrol. Then incident happened near Faraskhana police station area.
