Pune: A vice principal from Hadapsar, Pune, has been sentenced to two years of simple imprisonment and one year of rigorous imprisonment for molesting a teacher.
The Cantonment Court, presided over by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate S.H. Atkare, also imposed a fine of ₹15,000 on the convicted vice principal, Suresh Pandurang Sawant.
The convicted vice principal is identified as Suresh Pandurang Sawant, a resident of Hadapsar. The incident occurred in July 2017 at a school in Manjari.
A teacher had filed a complaint at the Hadapsar police station regarding the matter. Suresh Sawant, who was the vice principal at the school, used to call the teacher to his office on various pretexts, behave indecently with her, and look at her inappropriately.
On July 17, he called her to the office under the guise of seeking her assistance and molested her, as per the teacher's complaint.
Assistant Public Prosecutor Anjala Navgire represented the case. Five witnesses testified for the prosecution, though two of them turned hostile.
Considering the testimony of the teacher and the arguments presented by the public prosecutor, the court found Sawant guilty and sentenced him. The court also ordered that the fine amount be given to the teacher as compensation. The investigation in this case was carried out by Police Officer Supriya Gawde.
