Pune: In a tragic incident on the Pune-Satara road in the Natubaug area, a 57-year-old woman was killed, and her 14-year-old granddaughter injured when they were hit by a speeding PMPML (Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited) bus while crossing the road.
The accident took place as the family was returning from a wedding celebration.
The deceased has been identified as Ashabai Dattatraya Salunke, a resident of Hirabaug, Shukrawar Peth, Tilak Road. Her granddaughter Prachiti was also struck in the accident and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital for her injuries.
A case has been registered against the PMPML bus driver, Satish Rajaram Gore, a 27-year-old resident of Kondhanpur, Taluka Haveli. Vishal Dattatraya Salunke, aged 38, filed a complaint at Sahakarnagar Police Station.
According to the police, the Salunke family had attended a family wedding at a hall on Pune-Satara Road on Saturday (November 23) night.
At approximately 9:15 p.m., Ashabai Salunke, her mother, and her granddaughter Prachiti were returning home. As they attempted to cross the road in Natubaug to catch an auto-rickshaw, a speeding PMPML bus struck Ashabai and Prachiti.
Ashabai sustained severe injuries and was immediately rushed to a private hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Senior Police Inspector Chhagan Kapse visited the accident site after being informed, and Police Sub-Inspector Firoz Shaikh is conducting a further investigation into the case.
