Pune: The Rajaram Bridge Chowk flyover on Sinhagad Road is ready to be opened for traffic following the completion of the final asphalt layer.

However, the opening has been delayed due to the unavailability of BJP leaders for the inauguration.

Rajaram Bridge Flyover Politics: NCP-BJP Clash Over Delayed Inauguration

Despite the flyover being fully constructed by July, it could not be opened earlier due to rain-related delays in completing the final layer of asphalt. Now, although the flyover is ready for use, it remains closed, with citizens facing unnecessary traffic congestion.

The construction of the flyover began in September 2021, and the section at Rajaram Bridge Chowk was completed last month. The final 50mm asphalt layer was delayed due to rain, but work was eventually completed on August 10.

According to municipal officials, the flyover could be opened for traffic two days later. The remaining work, including painting the flyover, marking white stripes on the road, painting dividers, and installing directional signs, was completed on Monday (August 12).

While there are no obstacles to opening the flyover for traffic, it is planned to be inaugurated by BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. However, Fadnavis has not been available for the past week.

Additionally, there is an attempt to have the inauguration by Union Minister Muralidhar Mohol during his visit to Pune on August 16, but this has not yet been confirmed.

Meanwhile, the issue of opening the flyover has become entirely political, and officials have refused to comment. Efforts to contact MLA Madhuri Misal regarding this matter were unsuccessful.
