Pune: Metro construction on Ganeshkhind Road has led to the closure of the road from Veer Chafekar Chowk (Mhasoba Gate) to India Meteorological Department (IMD / Simla Office) junction.
In response to this situation, Sandeep Kale, the BJP Environment Wing Chief, has formally requested the Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Police to reopen the road immediately.
Kale emphasized that although the road from Pune University via the flyover was opened a few months ago, the road beneath the flyover connecting to Simla Office Chowk remains inaccessible.
This closure is significantly affecting the residents of Chhatrapati Shivajinagar’s Model Colony, Wadarwadi, Gokhalenagar, and Janwadi areas.
These residents are currently forced to take an approximately one-kilometer detour via Narveer Tanajiwadi to reach Simla Office Chowk, leading to inconvenience and longer commute times.
In addition to the reopening of the road, Kale has urged that the existing one-way road towards Narveer Tanajiwadi be converted into a two-way route to improve traffic flow. He warned that if prompt action is not taken, a strong protest would be launched to address the issue.
Recently, the land measurement for the widening of Ganeshkhind Road, one of Pune’s most congested roads, was completed, marking a key milestone in the project.
The Pune Municipal Corporation, in coordination with the land records department, surveyed a total of 52 properties to move forward with the much awaited road-widening plan.
