A shocking case has emerged in Pune where a doctor has been charged with issuing death threats and using casteist language against Parshuram Wadekar, the city president of the Republican Party of India (RPI) under the Athawale faction. The Bund Garden Police have registered a case following a complaint filed by Wadekar.
The accused, Dr. Amit Luthra, a resident of Viman Nagar, allegedly threatened Wadekar’s life and hurled casteist slurs during an altercation that took place on September 22 at the premises of a government guest house. The conflict appears to stem from an ongoing marital dispute between Dr. Luthra and his wife, Dr. Surbhi Luthra.
According to sources, Dr. Surbhi had sought the help of Wadekar after facing prolonged harassment from her husband. She reportedly handed a formal complaint to Wadekar, requesting his intervention.
Dr. Luthra, upon learning of his wife’s outreach to Wadekar, allegedly became enraged and confronted Wadekar at the guest house, where the verbal and physical threats were made.
Wadekar, in his official statement to the police, recounted that Dr. Luthra not only insulted him using casteist language but also threatened to kill him. The police, acting on the complaint, have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
The case is currently being investigated by Assistant Police Inspector Kadam, who confirmed that further inquiries are underway.
The case has garnered attention due to the high-profile nature of both the accused and the victim, with many calling for strict legal action.
RPI supporters and other local political figures have also expressed their concern, urging the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
