Pune: The autobiography Subhedari, chronicling the life and career of retired IAS officer Avinash Subhedar, was launched today at Harshal Hall on Karve Road.
Published by Manovikas Prakashan, the book was unveiled by former State Information Commissioner and prominent writer-editor Vijay Kuwalekar.
Dr. Budhajirao Mulik, a respected agricultural scientist, presided over the event, which was attended by distinguished personalities, including former Divisional Commissioner Chandrakant Dalvi, former Sugar Commissioner Shekhar Gaikwad, poet Dr. Sanjay Upadhye, and Manovikas Prakashan representatives Arvind Patkar and Nitish Salunke.
In his keynote address, Vijay Kuwalekar emphasized that integrity and compassion are essential to becoming a people-centered public servant, commending Subhedar for his empathy and commitment to service.
He highlighted that Subhedar’s journey, grounded in a Marathi-medium education in rural Maharashtra, exemplifies how authentic action, rather than mere appearance, leads to impactful governance.
Dr. Budhajirao Mulik reflected on the guiding principle of truthfulness imparted by the Agricultural College, noting that Subhedar has remained true to this ideal throughout his career.
Mulik remarked, “The people are the true masters, and the government’s role is to serve them.” He emphasized the importance of prioritizing agriculture and the welfare of farmers, as these are vital to society’s stability and prosperity.
Chandrakant Dalvi lauded the autobiography as an inspiring guide for aspiring officers, appreciating its honest, unembellished storytelling. Shekhar Gaikwad also noted that Subhedar is cherished not only as an accomplished officer but as a deeply sensitive individual.
Avinash Subhedar shared that a sense of duty and dedication has always been his driving force. He described the Jambulpada incident as a significant test of his compassion and recounted his years with Chief Minister Manohar Joshi as the most fulfilling phase of his career.
Despite numerous challenges, Subhedar expressed satisfaction in his contributions to the public, maintaining honesty and resilience throughout his service.
