Pune: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) has called on eligible auto rickshaw and metered taxi drivers across Maharashtra to take full advantage of the recently established Dharmaveer Anand Dighe Saheb Maharashtra Auto Rickshaw and Metered Taxi Driver Welfare Board.
The board has introduced a range of welfare schemes aimed at improving the financial stability, health, and professional development of drivers.
Through this initiative, drivers can benefit from life and disability insurance, healthcare services, and financial assistance for injuries sustained while on duty.
Additionally, the board offers scholarships for the education of drivers' children and training programs to help enhance their skills. A special retirement scheme has also been set up, offering a gratuity to drivers over the age of 65, as well as loans for the purchase of new vehicles or homes.
The RTO has emphasized the importance of registration, urging drivers to apply for membership in the welfare board to access these benefits.
Eligible drivers must have a state-registered auto rickshaw or metered taxi license, along with a valid driver’s badge. Registered drivers will receive identification cards from the district-level offices, allowing them to avail the various welfare schemes.
To streamline the process, an online registration system is being developed. The RTO has encouraged drivers to stay informed and reach out to their local offices for further information on how to apply and benefit from these programs.
This welfare initiative is seen as a crucial step toward providing social and financial security to auto and taxi drivers, ensuring their well-being while promoting career growth and stability.
