Pune: In a bid to prevent any damage during the monsoon season, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has demolished the dangerous sections of 133 wadas across the city over the past year.
This proactive measure aims to mitigate the risks posed by these dilapidated structures. Notices have been issued to the residents of the remaining seven dangerous wadas, with ongoing efforts to identify more hazardous wadas in the city.
The central areas of Pune, particularly the Peths, house many old and unstable wadas. These structures often collapse during the monsoon, posing significant threats to both life and property.
To counter this, the PMC has been actively identifying dangerous wadas and issuing notices to their owners and tenants.
Last year, the Corporation identified 140 dangerous wadas and issued notices to the respective owners and tenants. Of these, the dangerous sections of 133 wadas in old village areas like Shaniwar Peth, Narayan Peth, Bhavani Peth, Somwar Peth, and Mangalwar Peth have been demolished, reducing the risk during the monsoon.
Notices have been issued to the owners and tenants of the remaining seven wadas. Some citizens have proactively contacted the Corporation to prioritize the demolition of dangerous sections of their wadas.
Uday Kode, Deputy Engineer, Construction Department, Municipal Corporation said, "Last year, there were 140 dangerous wadas in the city. Of these, the dangerous sections of 133 wadas have been demolished, and notices have been issued to the owners and tenants of the remaining seven wadas."
