Pune: In response to heavy rains and political pressure, Pune District Collector Dr. Suhas Divase announced a holiday for schools on Friday, 26th July.
This decision followed requests from former Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil and ruling representatives, who urged the District Collector via a letter circulated on social media.
Heavy rainfall from Wednesday night until Thursday morning led to Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar declaring a holiday for schools and colleges on Thursday (July 24).
However, regarding the holiday for schools on Friday, the District Collector discussed with Krishnakant Hosalikar of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in the evening. It was suggested that there was no need for a holiday on Friday.
Still, District Collector Dr. Divase instructed the Meteorological Department to provide an accurate forecast for Friday, based on which the decision for the holiday would be made.
Meanwhile, Guardian Minister Pawar, who arrived from Mumbai to Pune in just two and a half hours, reviewed the situation with the administration at the Municipal Corporation and gave necessary instructions. He insisted that officials should be present on-site.
Following this, State Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil and former Guardian Minister Patil sent a letter to the District Collector on Friday (July 25), urging him to declare a holiday, which was circulated on social media by the representatives.
To avoid confusion among schools and parents, the District Collector finally decided to declare a holiday for all government and private primary and secondary schools in Bhor, Velhe, Maval, Mulshi, Haveli, Khadakwasla area, Ambegaon, Junnar talukas, and Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
