Pune: An educated young man who killed his wife over suspicions of her character and then filed a false complaint with the police has been arrested by the Pune Rural Police Crime Branch. The investigation revealed that he electrocuted his wife and strangled her.

The murdered woman has been identified as Sheetal Swapnil Ranpise (23) from Ranjangaon Sandas, Shirur, Pune district. Her husband, Swapnil Shyamrao Ranpise (26), has been arrested, according to Rural Police Superintendent Pankaj Deshmukh.

A case was registered at the Shirur Police Station. Swapnil, who is highly educated and works for a private IT company, has a history of suspicious behavior.

His suspicious nature had previously caused several potential brides to reject him. Swapnil and Sheetal had been married for seven months, Deshmukh explained.

On July 3, Sheetal was alone at home while her in-laws were out. She was found unconscious with a rope around her neck and electrical wire marks on her thumb. Despite being rushed to a private hospital, she was declared dead before any treatment could be administered.

Upon receiving the report, the police inspected the crime scene and found the household items in disarray. Initial investigations suggested the murder might have been a result of a burglary.

Given the severity of the crime, Superintendent Deshmukh provided special instructions for the investigation. Police retrieved CCTV footage from the area and interrogated Swapnil, whose behavior aroused further suspicion. Under intense questioning, Swapnil confessed to killing his wife due to doubts about her character.

This investigation was conducted under the guidance of Superintendent Pankaj Deshmukh, Additional Superintendent Ramesh Chopade, and Shirur Sub-Divisional Officer Prashant Dhole.

The crime branch team, including Police Inspector Avinash Shilimkar, Shirur Police Inspector Jyotiram Gunjwate, Assistant Inspector Rahul Gawde, Amol Panhalkar, Sub-Inspector Eknath Patil, Constable Sachin Ghadge, Ajit Bhujbal, Atul Dere, Raju Momin, and Tushar Pandare, carried out the arrest.
