Pune: A shocking incident of murder has unfolded in Mandavgan Farata, located in the Shirur Taluka, where a laborer was thrown into the river after being burnt in hot sugarcane juice during a drunken altercation at a local mill.
The deceased, identified as Sarju (full name and address unknown), was involved in a dispute with two men—Sher Singh Ombir Kumar and Karan Anil Thakur—while working at a sugarcane mill owned by Nawanath Tukaram Konde, aged 42, who filed the complaint at the Shirur police station.
According to police reports, the incident took place on the early morning of September 29, around 2:45 AM, at the complainant’s sugarcane mill in land group number 16.
Sarju had arrived at work under the influence of alcohol, which led to a minor argument with Kumar and Thakur concerning his ability to work.
During the ensuing struggle, Sarju lost his footing and fell into a pot of boiling sugarcane juice.
After the accident, Kumar and Thakur extracted Sarju from the pot. Despite his severe burns and being alive, the duo deceived Sarju into believing they were taking him to a hospital for treatment.
Instead, they callously drove him to the banks of the Bhima River, where they discarded him in an attempt to eliminate any evidence of their crime.
The Shirur police, upon receiving the complaint, have registered a murder case against Kumar and Thakur, who are currently residing in Mandavgan Farata but originally hail from Sheetalgadhi, Shamli District in Uttar Pradesh.
Police Inspector Sandesh Kenjale is overseeing the investigation, supported by Police Sub-Inspector Shubham Chavan.
