Pune: The seat-sharing arrangement for the Maharashtra Assembly elections under the Mahayuti alliance remains incomplete, leading to growing tensions between alliance partners.
A new dispute has surfaced between Shiv Sena and BJP over the Khadakwasla Assembly constituency. Shiv Sena, led by district chief Ramesh Konde, is seeking to contest the seat, which is currently held by BJP’s sitting MLA Bhimrao Tapkir.
Tapkir, a two-term BJP MLA, is expected to retain the seat as part of the alliance’s seat-sharing formula. However, Shiv Sena is making a strong push for the seat, with Konde expressing his intention to contest.
This has created internal and external pressures for Tapkir, as he now faces challenges from both within his party and from Shiv Sena. The two leaders were seen confronting each other at an event, showcasing the growing rift.
Speaking to the media, Ramesh Konde emphasized his political experience, stating, "I have been active in politics for two decades and have held positions as Sarpanch and district council member. I have never lost an election and am confident I will win the assembly election through the Mahayuti alliance."
Konde further stated, "We have always fought alongside alliance partners, and once Shinde Saheb gives the order, we will contest Khadakwasla. The people have also asked me to contest.
Like Pankaja Munde and Jarange Patil, who called for sharpening the sickles and swords, we are ready for battle. I believe Shinde Saheb will take this seat for us and allow me to contest."
On the other hand, BJP MLA Bhimrao Tapkir responded to Konde’s claims, saying, "In a democracy, anyone can ask for candidature, and some within the BJP have also requested it.
The party’s core committee will make the final decision, and I will respect their decision. I am the fixed candidate from Khadakwasla, and once the party announces the name, I will be the double-fixed candidate."
