Pune: With only two days remaining for candidates to submit their nominations for the upcoming Assembly elections, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) clarified its candidate selections for the Pimpri-Chinchwad region on Sunday (October 27).

The Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) will contest the Pimpri, Chinchwad, and Bhosari seats after the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) agreed to relinquish its claim on the Bhosari constituency.

The decision was reached following lobbying from workers within both parties, who had requested that their respective party leaderships allow them to contest the Bhosari seat, leading to some internal conflict within the MVA.

However, on Sunday, the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) stepped back, allowing the NCP (SP) to declare its former corporator Ajit Gavhane as the official candidate for Bhosari.

NCP SP officials had previously announced that Sulakshana Dhar-Shilwant would run for the Pimpri seat, marking the first candidate selection in the region by the NCP SP faction.

Speculation surrounded the Chinchwad and Bhosari constituencies, with many eagerly awaiting clarity on who would represent the coalition in these seats.

The wait ended Sunday as Jayant Patil, the NCP (SP) state president, officially announced Ajit Gavhane’s candidacy for Bhosari, a familiar face who has represented the region as a corporator four times. Gawhane has already begun his campaign efforts.

The Bhosari constituency is now set for a two-way contest between the BJP of the Mahayuti and the NCP (SP) faction in the MVA, with the current MLA seeking to secure a third consecutive victory.

Voters will decide on November 23 whether the MVA will break the incumbent’s streak or if the BJP will continue its run. Both candidates hail from Bhosari, adding to the excitement surrounding the closely-watched local battle.
