Pune: To celebrate World Tourism Day, the Directorate of Tourism, in collaboration with the Junnar Tourism Destination Management Foundation, is set to host a grand three-day "Shivjanmabhoomi Tourism Festival" at the base of the iconic Shivneri Fort from September 28 to September 30.
The event is designed to promote the rich cultural and historical heritage of Junnar while creating a unique experience for visitors through various interactive and educational activities.
A Historic Celebration at Shivneri Fort
According to organizers Vilas Kadlak and Vinayak Khot, the festival aims to immerse tourists in the history of Shivneri Fort, the birthplace of the legendary Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
The event will include the launch of a special documentary titled "Maza Shivneri," which will provide insight into the fort's historical significance and its place in Maratha history.
Cultural Performances and Historical Exhibitions
In addition to the documentary screening, tourists will be treated to live demonstrations of traditional war strategies, as practiced during Shivaji's era, and historical games.
There will be cultural performances showcasing folk art and traditional dance forms, celebrating the region's diverse cultural heritage.
One of the festival's key attractions will be an exhibition of ancient coins from the Shivaji era, providing a rare glimpse into the monetary system of that time.
An art exhibition will also be on display, highlighting the rich artistry and craftsmanship of local artists. Another highlight will be the reenactment of the historic "Shivkalin Swari" (cavalcade), allowing visitors to experience the grandeur and pageantry of royal processions from the Maratha period.

Junnar's local culinary traditions will be in the spotlight as the festival showcases the unique flavors and dishes of the region. Visitors will have the chance to sample a variety of traditional foods, offering an authentic taste of the region’s gastronomic culture.
