Pune: In the Shivajinagar Assembly constituency, BJP candidate Siddharth Shirole won a consecutive term, defeating Congress’s Datta Bahirat by an impressive margin of 36,702 votes.
Shirole, who received a total of 84,695 votes, continued his leadership in the constituency, solidifying his standing among voters who favored his return to the legislative assembly.
The final tally after 20 rounds of counting showed Siddharth Shirole in a commanding position with 84,695 votes, while his main rival, Datta Bahirat of Congress, trailed with 47,993 votes.
Independent candidate and Congress rebel Manish Anand Surendra also contested, garnering 13,061 votes, which further impacted Congress’s overall vote count.
From the start of vote counting, Shirole maintained a strong lead, reflecting the consistent organizational influence of the BJP in Shivajinagar.
Despite a determined campaign by Bahirat, the influence of Shirole and his party’s robust ground-level support proved decisive, reinforcing the BJP’s presence in the constituency.
The independent candidacy of Manish Anand, a Congress dissenter, contributed to splitting Congress’s vote share.
This internal division among Congress supporters likely impacted Bahirat’s chances, underscoring the effect of party unity on electoral outcomes.
