Pune: Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister of Pune district, Ajit Pawar, visited the flood-affected areas of Ekta Nagar to assess the ongoing relief and rescue operations.
During his visit, he interacted with the flood-affected residents, assuring them of support from the state government and municipal corporation.
Pawar stated that instructions have been given to the administration to survey the flood damage and provide necessary aid to the citizens. He emphasized that measures would be taken to prevent future obstructions in the water flow, including clearing trees and debris from the area. The administration has also arranged for food and water supplies for the affected residents.
The flood situation arose after heavy rainfall in Pune city post-midnight hindered proper drainage, despite controlled discharge from the Khadakwasla dam.
Efforts are ongoing to control the flood's intensity by regulating the dam's discharge. Officials have been instructed on the necessary measures to manage the situation.
To avoid nighttime problems, instructions have been issued to increase the dam's discharge during the day. Pawar assured that the government would provide all necessary assistance to the flood-affected citizens and implement permanent measures to prevent future floods.
He listened to the concerns of the affected citizens and directed the municipal corporation to provide essential aid. Additionally, he discussed the dam's discharge management with irrigation department officials over the phone.
Ajit Pawar reassured citizens that there is no need to panic as the rain has subsided. The army rescue team has been stationed in Ekta Nagar with 100 personnel, including engineers and doctors, along with four boats.
NDRF has 40 personnel and four boats on standby. All residents in Ekta Nagar have been safely relocated, and the municipal corporation has provided shelter for those without a place to stay.
