Social Media Romance: Man Accused of Coercing Woman, Issuing Death Threats

Pune: A 29-year-old woman has lodged a serious complaint with the Shivajinagar police, alleging that a man, despite being married, lured her into a physical relationship under the false promise of marriage.

The accused, identified as Amit Ankush Napte, a 29-year-old resident of Karandi in Shirur Taluka, is said to have manipulated the woman into believing he would marry her, even after she discovered his marital status.

The woman reported that she initially met Amit through social media, where their acquaintance soon developed into a romantic relationship.

Amit took her to a hotel in Shivajinagar, where he coerced her into a sexual relationship by threatening to cancel their planned marriage if she refused.

Later, when the woman learned that Amit was already married, he assured her that he would divorce his wife and marry her instead. However, during a visit to his family home in Shikrapur, Amit and his father allegedly threatened her life, with his father boasting about their influential connections and warning her that she could be falsely implicated in a criminal case.

The incidents allegedly took place at the woman’s home in Model Colony and several hotels between July 31, 2022, and August 30, 2024.

The Shivajinagar police have registered a case of rape against Amit, and Assistant Police Inspector Savita Sapkale is currently investigating the matter.
