Pune: In a significant road accident in Pune's Kalyani Nagar, Saurabh Gaikwad, son of former Mayor and Pune Municipal Corporator Bandu Gaikwad from the NCP Sharad Pawar faction, crashed a speeding luxury car into a tempo transporting chickens. The incident occurred early Tuesday morning near Z Corner in Mundhwa.

A case has been registered against Saurabh Gaikwad. The complaint was filed by Deepak Baburao Hivrale, who was driving tempo. Due to the collision, both Hivrale and the cleaner, Raja Shaikh (age 29), were injured.

According to the police, Saurabh was driving his Harrier car with the registration number MH 12 TH 0505 and heading home to Mundhwa at 5 AM on Tuesday. He collided with the oncoming poultry farm tempo.

Locals gathered at the scene immediately took Hivrale and Shaikh to a private hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the police are investigating whether Saurabh was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

The entire accident was captured on CCTV, providing crucial evidence for the investigation. The Hadapsar police have registered a case against Saurabh Gaikwad and are also investigating whether he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

This incident follows another recent event in the same area where a luxury car ran over two youths. Recently, in Mumbai's Worli, Mihir Shah, the son of a political leader, was involved in a hit-and-run case that resulted in a woman's death.

In Pune, a policeman on duty was killed on the spot, and another injured, after their patrol bike was hit by a speeding car at the underpass near Harris Bridge in Bopodi area on the old Pune-Mumbai Highway on July 7 night.

The deceased policeman was identified as Samadhan Koli while the injured policeman as Sanjog Shinde. The duo were posted at Khadki police station. The rise in hit-and-run cases in Pune has sparked concern among the city's residents about their safety.
