Pune: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) administrators has asked a specific individual facing allegations to sign an undertaking to secure the position of Registrar.
The candidate has been asked to sign an affidavit on a stamp paper stating that they will be responsible for any disputes arising post-appointment. This has led to speculations and discussions about the administration's insistence on appointing this particular candidate among all the interviewees.
The selection process for the registrar at Pune University is ongoing, with interviews conducted on July 10 and 11. Despite the completion of the interview process, the names of the selected candidates have not been announced. This delay has raised concerns about transparency and potential legal violations within the university’s administration.
Serious allegations, including harassment, have been made against the favored candidate. The National Commission for Scheduled Castes has also raised concerns regarding their employment.
Employee unions have threatened to protest if the controversial individual is appointed, yet the university administration remains steadfast in their decision.
As the university celebrates its Platinum Jubilee, there is a strong call for appointing an unblemished individual as the registrar. The selection committee’s failure to verify the candidates’ character certificates has been criticized, and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Suresh Gosavi may face public outrage if a controversial person is appointed.
A delegation from the employee union has met with Vice-Chancellor Dr. Suresh Gosavi to prevent the appointment. According to Yuva Sena's State Secretary Kalpesh Yadav, "Savitribai Phule, known for her work in women's education and empowerment, lends her name to Pune University.
Appointing a person accused of disrespecting women as the university's registrar would not only insult women but also dishonor Savitribai Phule's legacy.
Even for appointing a simple peon, the individual's character is scrutinized. However, despite numerous complaints about the character of the candidate proposed for the registrar position, the university is pushing this appointment."
