Pune: A survey of footpaths in Pune was undertaken recently by Save Pune Traffic Movement (SPTM). The survey has highlighted significant issues with footpaths across Pune.
The survey, which covered 24 different footpaths, aimed to assess pedestrian usage and identify problems causing pedestrians to walk on the carriageways instead.
The findings reveal that several footpaths are in disrepair or inadequately designed, leading many pedestrians to walk on the roads, which increases their risk and adds stress to drivers.
Harshad Abhyankar, Director, SPTM, said, "The survey's photographic evidence indicates that in many instances, expanding footpaths by just one meter could accommodate almost all pedestrians without negatively affecting vehicular traffic. This small adjustment could greatly enhance pedestrian safety and reduce traffic-related stress for drivers."
