Pune: The Maharashtra state government introduced a Stamp Duty Amnesty Scheme for those who paid lower stamp duty on document registration between 1980 and 2020.
The second phase of this scheme is set to end on Sunday, June 30. However, given the positive response to the scheme, there is a possibility of an extension.
So far, the Registration and Stamp Duty Department has not received any written orders or instructions from the state government regarding this extension.
The scheme targets those who purchased flats between 1980 and 2020 but paid lower stamp duty or failed to register the sale agreement on a proper stamp paper.
It covers documents registered with insufficient stamp duty based on the market value shown in the documents, ignoring the actual market rates.
The scheme is divided into two phases: the first phase from January 1, 1980, to December 31, 2000, and the second phase from January 1, 2001, to 2020. The first phase ran from December 1, 2023, to January 31, 2024, but was extended to February 29 due to high demand.
Currently, the second phase is underway, with the initial application deadline extended from March 31 to June 30. This deadline is now approaching, but there is a possibility of another extension. Pune City Stamp Collector Santosh Hingane confirmed that no official notification has been released yet.
During the second phase, there is a 50% discount on stamp duty for documents from 1980 to 2000 and 20% off on penalties for documents from 2001 to 2020.
Applications are available on the Registration and Stamp Duty Department’s website and can be submitted at the office of the Stamp Collector (Deputy Registrar) or the relevant Sub-Registrar's office for registered documents.
"The Stamp Duty Amnesty Scheme is set to end on June 30, and we have not received any orders or instructions from the government regarding an extension," said Nandkumar Katkar, Deputy Inspector General of Registration and Stamp Duty.
