Pune: Chaos ensued at the campus of VIT educational institute in Pune as students and parents protested against alleged irregularities in the admission process for professional courses.
Accusations surfaced that the institute bypassed the rules set by the State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell, resulting in anger and frustration among applicants. Demonstrators gathered at the institutions' premises, raising slogans in response to what they claim are irregular admissions.
The CET Cell has clear guidelines on how admissions should be conducted for professional courses, especially after the CAP (Centralized Admission Process) rounds.
Institutions are required to follow specific rules outlined in Section 13 (a to j) of the CET Cell's regulations. However, several institutions reportedly ignored these directives, leading the CET Cell and the technical education department to issue a formal notice, warning that any admissions carried out in violation of the rules could be canceled.
Recently, Pune Institute of Computer Technology (PICT) had its irregular admissions canceled under similar circumstances.
The CET Cell had extended the deadline for institutional-level admissions until September 15. However, the irregularities in some institutions' admission processes have sparked protests.
At VIT (Vishwakarma Institute of Technology), for instance, students and parents gathered in large numbers to secure admissions, only to find that many were denied. This led to accusations from students that the admission process had not adhered to the CET guidelines.
Kalpesh Yadav, Assistant Secretary of Yuva Sena, publicly criticized the institutions’ admission processes on social media platform ‘X.’ Yadav has called for state intervention, urging higher and technical education minister Chandrakant Patil to investigate the situation and take corrective action.
His demand includes canceling any irregular admissions and ensuring that meritorious students are granted seats in accordance with the rules.
