Pune: In a distressing case from Daund city, a woman was reportedly confined and raped after being lured with the promise of a large sum of money in exchange for donating her egg cells (ova) for surrogacy.

The police have registered a case against both the man who committed the crime and a woman who assisted in the act.

The accused, Ashiya Anwar Sheikh, a resident of Daund, approached the victim, offering financial compensation for egg donation. The victim, who was in financial distress, agreed and was brought to Ashiya’s residence.

According to the victim, she was told she had to remain in Daund until the egg donation process could be initiated based on the requirements of those seeking the eggs.

During her stay, Ashiya allegedly took the victim’s photographs and circulated them on social media. When the victim attempted to leave after an argument over this, she was forcibly confined in a room.

On September 12, Ashiya reportedly called Irfan Shabbir Khan to her home and allowed him into the room where the victim was held. Irfan then sexually assaulted and physically abused the victim when she resisted.

Following the victim's complaint on October 8, the Daund police registered a case against both Irfan Shabbir Khan and Ashiya Anwar Sheikh. They have been charged under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including sexual intercourse by inducement, wrongful confinement, and intentional infliction of harm.
