Pune: In an incident that left commuters stranded, an error by the metro administration at Swargate Metro Station caused the metro doors to open on the wall side instead of the platform, resulting in significant inconvenience for passengers on Tuesday (October 29).
The incident has since raised questions about planning and technical oversight, prompting Aam Aadmi Party activist Prashant Kamble to file a formal complaint, demanding an investigation and corrective action.
The incident occurred when Kamble boarded the metro from Mandai to Swargate around 2:30 pm. As the train arrived at Swargate, an announcement instructed passengers to wait by the right-side doors, leading all passengers to queue on the right side.
However, instead of the platform, passengers were met with the tunnel wall, while the actual platform was on the left side, creating confusion for both passengers on board and those waiting on the platform.
Following the confusion, some passengers reported the error to the motorman and metro staff. Kamble approached Station Controller Suresh Pawar directly, urging swift action and accountability for the mishap. The metro administration has yet to comment on the cause of the error.
The Pimpri-Swargate metro line has become a popular choice for passengers. The route, spanning 17.5 kilometers and covering 14 stations, allows passengers to travel between Pimpri and Swargate in just 35 minutes for a fare of ₹30. This combination of speed and affordability has been a major draw for daily commuters.
