Pune: Tekawadi village in Khed Taluka, Pune, has achieved the distinction of being the second solar-powered village in Maharashtra.
With a population of 1,239, all 74 electricity connections in the village, including residential, Gram Panchayat, temple, and school connections, are now powered entirely by solar energy.
This achievement comes as part of MSEDCL’s broader mission to convert 100 villages across the state to 100% solar energy. Following the successful transformation of Manyachi Wadi in Satara District, Tekawadi is the second village to complete its transition to solar power.
The official online inauguration of the village’s solar power project was done by Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, during an event in Nagpur on Wednesday (9th). Deputy CM Fadnavis commended the efforts of Sarpanch Vithal Shinde and the entire village for their collective contribution to the project.
Several prominent figures attended the online event, including Khed MLA Dilip Mohite Patil, members of the District Planning Committee, and other local leaders. Senior officials from MSEDCL, including its Chairman and Managing Director Lokesh Chandra, also participated in the event.
Tekawadi’s solar power project was completed with the collaboration of local officials and financial support from the Forvia Foundation under their CSR initiative.
Each of the 70 homes in the village was equipped with a 1-kilowatt rooftop solar system under the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Free Electricity Scheme, while the Gram Panchayat, temple, and primary school received 7-kilowatt systems.
The village now boasts a total solar power generation capacity of 98 kilowatts, producing 11,760 units of electricity per month. Since the average monthly electricity consumption per home is 70-80 units, Tekawadi’s households will not only generate enough electricity to meet their own needs but also have surplus power that will be sold back to MSEDCL.
