Pune: After a week of heavy rains that disrupted life and led to a tourist ban, Lonavala saw a large influx of visitors on Sunday (July 28).
The ban had been lifted after the rain intensity decreased, and popular spots like Bhushi Dam, Tiger Point, and Bhaje Waterfall were crowded with tourists enjoying the monsoon.
The administration had imposed a ban on visiting tourist spots in Maval and Mulshi talukas from July 25 to July 29. As the intensity of the rain decreased, this ban was lifted after midnight on July 27.
However, the weather department issued a yellow alert for rain in Pune district and the ghats for the next four days, leading the sub-divisional officer to reimpose the ban.
Despite the new order, the reduced intensity of the rain and the large number of tourists led to a festive atmosphere at all tourist spots.
In addition to Bhushi Dam, there were large crowds at Sahara Bridge Waterfall, Tiger Point, and Rajmachi Point in Khandala. To manage the crowd, Lonavala city police had deployed significant security at the dam.
Similarly, security was arranged at Sahara Bridge, and Lonavala rural police were stationed at Bhaje Waterfall. Security was also deployed around the Pavana Dam reservoir area.
During the monsoon season, tourists from Pune and Mumbai visit Lonavala in large numbers. While visitors are encouraged to enjoy their time, they are also urged to refrain from activities that endanger their lives.
