Pimpri: In response to mounting complaints from residents about persistent traffic jams at Shivar Chowk, authorities have removed the traffic island, a move that is expected to significantly reduce congestion in the busy areas of Rahatni and Pimple Saudagar.

This decision came after several rounds of discussions between former opposition leader Nana Kate, former corporator Sheetal Kate, and officials from the municipal administration and the traffic branch.

Shivar Chowk, situated in Ward No. 28 of Rahatni – Pimple Saudagar, serves as a crucial junction on the Nashik Phata to Hinjewadi BRTS road, a primary route frequently used by residents for commuting within the city and surrounding areas.

Due to its strategic location, the intersection has seen heavy traffic flow, leading to frequent bottlenecks and causing significant delays for commuters.

The problem of congestion at Shivar Chowk has been a longstanding issue, with local residents and members of housing societies repeatedly voicing their frustrations to Nana Kate and Sheetal Kate.

Responding to these concerns, Nana Kate engaged with the municipal traffic department and the BRTS division on multiple occasions, pushing for a sustainable solution to ease the traffic flow.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the authorities decided to remove the traffic island at Shivar Chowk, identified as a key contributor to the congestion.

Late last night, teams from the BRTS and traffic police departments executed the removal of the traffic island, working overnight to ensure minimal disruption to the morning commuters.

With the traffic island now dismantled, it is anticipated that the flow of vehicles through Shivar Chowk will improve, reducing delays and easing the daily commute for residents of Rahatni and Pimple Saudagar.
