Pune: Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has directed that traffic police should not tow vehicles from 'No Parking' zones if the vehicle owner or driver is present at the location. Instead, only the 'No Parking' fee should be charged, and 'towing charges' should be waived.
Vehicles parked in 'No Parking' zones typically incur fines and towing charges. However, this practice has often led to conflicts between towing van staff and vehicle drivers, with several complaints reaching the police commissioner about the behavior of the towing staff.
In response, Commissioner Kumar convened a meeting with all towing van staff and officials from the related private company. During the meeting, he advised the staff to treat drivers with courtesy. He also recommended that assistant sub-inspectors be appointed on towing vans and cranes, and that they be equipped with e-challan machines and walkie-talkies.
Furthermore, the Commissioner emphasized that traffic police should avoid rude behavior and urged citizens to respect the police in return. This move is expected to reduce conflicts and improve relations between the public and traffic enforcement personnel.
