Pune: In anticipation of the increased traffic during the Ganesh Festival, several major roads in Pune, including Laxmi Road, Shivaji Road, Bajirao Road, and Tilak Road, will be temporarily closed for vehicular traffic, and alternative routes have been established to manage the situation.
Starting from September 11, 2024, until September 18, 2024, various restrictions will be imposed on these major roads, with some temporary adjustments to facilitate the movement of vehicles during the festive rush.
Road Closures:
Laxmi Road: Closed for all vehicular traffic.
Shivaji Road: Closed for vehicular traffic between key intersections.
Bajirao Road: Temporarily closed between Puram Chowk and Gadgil Statue.
Tilak Road: Closed from Maratha Chambers to Jedhe Chowk, with restricted access for vehicles.
Alternative Routes:
From Hamjekhan Chowk:
Turn right at Dulyam Maruti Chowk, follow Daruwala Bridge to Tilak Chowk.
Turn left at Hamjekhan Chowk, use Maharana Pratap Road, and continue to Shankar Sheth Road.
Turn left at Sonymaruti Chowk, continue via Pan Ghanti Chowk and Solapur Road.
For Traffic From Shivajinagar to Swargate:
Use J.M. Road and Alka Chowk to reach Tilak Road or Shastri Road.
Alternatively, use Simla Chowk, Kamgar Putala Chowk, and Nehru Road.
From Kumbharves Chowk:
Proceed via Pawale Chowk, Satatoti Chowk, turn right at Devji Baba Chowk, and continue on Shankar Sheth Road.
For Two-wheelers:
Allowed up to Lal Mahal; then, turn left at Phadke Haud Chowk and proceed via Daruwala Bridge.
Special Adjustments:
Temporary two-way traffic will be allowed on some roads that usually have one-way traffic, such as between Puram Chowk and Gadgil Statue.
No Parking Zones:
Shivaji Road: From Jijamata Chowk to Mandai Chowk.
Bajirao Road: From Shanipar to Phutkaburud.
Appa Balwant to Budhwar Chowk: No parking allowed on both sides.
Timing of Closures:
Major closures and restrictions will be enforced daily from 5:00 PM until crowds disperse.
Additional Notes:
Pedestrian-only zones may be established after 5:00 PM based on crowd density.
Traffic Police urge citizens to follow alternative routes and respect no-parking areas to avoid disruptions during the Ganesh Festival period.
