Pune: The water storage in Ujani Dam, crucial for the districts of Pune, Solapur, and Ahmednagar, has crossed the 50% mark. This development brings relief to all those reliant on the dam's resources.
As per the data recorded at 12 PM on Wednesday (July 31), Ujani Dam now holds 52.58% of its capacity, equating to a total of 81.83 TMC. The dam needs an additional 19 TMC to reach full capacity.
On Friday (July 26), the dam's water level shifted from negative to positive. In just five days, Ujani accumulated 27.59 TMC of water. Currently, the inflow from Daund into the dam is 20,874 cusecs.

Meanwhile, a major flood recently hit the Bhima River, releasing about 1.5 lakh cusecs of water from Daund into the Ujani Dam. The flood caused severe damage to agricultural crops along the riverbanks in the taluka and eastern regions.
Cotton crops, a major cash crop in the Devulgaonraja area, were submerged for 40 hours, resulting in complete crop rot. The flood also damaged new plantations of sugarcane, fodder crops, and vegetables.
Farmers, who had turned to cotton cultivation due to favorable water conditions in June, have now suffered significant losses. Despite the floodwaters receding, the government has not yet provided any assistance to the affected farmers.
When they approached local officials for damage assessment, they were told that no government resolution had been received. "Dadasaheb Lonkar, Circle Officer, Devulgaonraja told mediapersons, "The Tehsildar has not yet given orders for damage assessment. Once received, we will promptly provide the necessary information."
