Pune: As the eagerly awaited Ganeshotsav approaches, preparations are in full swing across the city.
A variety of Ganesh idols, ranging from ₹200 to ₹10,000 and sizes from 6 inches to 6 feet, have arrived in the markets. Despite a 15 to 20 percent hike in the prices of idols and decorative materials, the enthusiasm among devotees remains undeterred.
Shops and stalls in both the city and its suburbs are witnessing a steady influx of customers, with families and children enthusiastically selecting idols.
Smaller idols, priced around ₹2,000, are favored for home installations, while larger ones, ranging from 2 to 5 feet, are popular in housing societies.
Ganesh mandals, which typically prefer larger idols, are also choosing high-quality idols for immersion ceremonies.
This year, the market is witnessing a unique range of idols, crafted with children's preferences in mind. Idols of Bal Ganesh, Ganesh with a turban, seated Ganesh, and Ganesh playing with an elephant or holding modaks are among the favorites.
Many devotees have already brought their idols home to avoid the rush on Ganesh Chaturthi day, while others have pre-booked their choices.
The response from customers is better than in previous years, with many taking extra care to ensure their children are excited about the festival.
Hanumant Kadu, a Ganesh idol seller, mentioned, "We install a Ganesha idol at home every year. However, this year, as our grandchildren are old enough to understand, their excitement and participation have added to the celebration.
We have already brought a Ganesh idol home this year, and even though the prices seem to have increased, our enthusiasm has not diminished."
