Pune: Six individuals, including two women, have been arrested and remanded to police custody in connection with an attempted murder by shooting, which took place in Uruli Kanchan near Pune.
The court has ordered three days of police custody for the accused, who are involved in an ongoing financial dispute with the victims.
The incident occurred on Saturday, September 14, in the Inamdar Vasti area, where a heated argument over unpaid dues escalated into a violent altercation.
The accused, identified as Bapu alias Dashrath Vitthal Shitole (46), Neelima Shitole (42), their son Jignesh Shitole (19), and associates Asha Suresh Bhosale (12), Akshay Bhosale (29), and Nikhil Ashok Bhosale (25), reportedly opened fire on two individuals who had come to collect ₹40 lakh owed to them by Bapu Shitole.
According to police reports, the victims, Sharad Kailas Gote (36) and Kaluram Mahadev Gote, went to Shitole’s residence to demand the money. What started as a verbal confrontation quickly spiraled out of control when Bapu Shitole allegedly retrieved a firearm and shot at the two men.
Both Sharad and Kaluram sustained serious injuries, with Kaluram's condition being critical. They were rushed to the hospital for treatment, and a police complaint was filed soon after.
The Uruli Kanchan police arrested the accused shortly after the incident. The prosecution requested a seven-day remand to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
However, the court granted police custody until September 18, during which the authorities will interrogate the suspects and gather more evidence related to the shooting.
The defense, represented by Adv. Hemant Zanjad and Adv. Sachin Zalate, argued that the circumstances of the incident should be further examined, but the court deemed police custody necessary for a detailed inquiry.
The firing has raised concerns about the rising violence over financial disputes in the region. Authorities are now probing the origins of the ₹40 lakh loan and other potential motives behind the altercation.
