Pune: The Election Commission has allocated election symbols to key regional parties ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections. The Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi (VBA) has secured the "Gas Cylinder" symbol for all constituencies, while Bachchu Kadu's Prahar Janshakti Party will contest under the "Bat" symbol.
This decision comes as political parties gear up for a crucial electoral battle, the first Assembly election following the split of major parties like Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
With the election expected to be held in November, the focus is on the strategic maneuvers of both the Mahayuti (Grand Alliance) and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliances, along with smaller parties.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi contested all constituencies under the "Gas Cylinder" symbol.
During the Assembly elections, they contested under various symbols such as the "Cup & Saucer" and "Gas Cylinder" in different constituencies. Now, for the 2024 Assembly elections, VBA has been granted the "Gas Cylinder" symbol for all constituencies in the state.
A letter was issued by the Central Election Commission Secretariat on August 14, announcing that the Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi has been allotted the "Gas Cylinder" symbol for all Assembly constituencies in the state.
Bachchu Kadu's Prahar Janshakti Party has been given the "Bat" symbol by the Election Commission. Previously, the Prahar party contested under the "Cup & Saucer" symbol.
In the Lok Sabha elections, the Prahar party was assigned the "Whistle" symbol. Now, for the upcoming Assembly elections, the Prahar party will have to contest under the "Bat" symbol. The allocation of this symbol comes just before the Assembly elections.
While the Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi has been allotted the "Gas Cylinder" symbol, the Bharatiya Adivasi Party has been given the "Hockey and Bat" symbol. The Prahar Janshakti Party of Kadu and Ambedkar's VBA are being viewed as potential game changers in the upcoming Assembly elections
