Pune: Vasant More is poised to join the Shiv Sena (UBT) soon. Sanjay Raut, MP of the Thackeray faction, confirmed this development, stating that More will be joining their group. Vasant More had previously parted ways with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) before the Lok Sabha elections and contested independently from Pune.
During his independent run, Vasant More received support from the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi but was ultimately defeated. Now, there is a strong possibility that he will join the Thackeray faction. He is scheduled to meet Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday (July 4) at 12:30 PM, during which his formal entry into the faction is likely to occur.
Sanjay Raut shared this information while speaking to reporters this morning, confirming that Vasant More is joining their side.
According to sources, More might receive an MLA ticket from either the Hadapsar or Khadakwasla Assembly constituency. He has expressed a preference for contesting from Hadapsar. More will visit Uddhav Thackeray at Matoshree today for a significant discussion, where he is expected to make a major decision.
If More gets go ahead for Hadapsar constituency, then the fight would turn out between More and Chetan Tupe of the Nationalist Congress Party. Yogesh Tilekar, a prominent BJP leader from Hadapsar, has already been announced as a candidate for Legislative Council.
Pramod alias Nana Bhangire, a leader of the Shiv Sena, is also seriously considering candidature from Hadapsar assembly constituency.
However, at present, Ajit Pawar's NCP holds the Hadapsar constituency and is likely to retain this seat in the seat-sharing discussions with the MahaYuti alliance including BJP and Shiv Sena.
More's entry in the political landscape of Hadapsar assembly will make the contest interesting fight. If Shiv Sena gets the seat, it will be Eknath Shinde's Sena vs Uddhav Thackeray's Sena.
