Pune: A health hazard that was looming over the Shelar Mala area near Vastushree Society due to drainage water mixing with a local stream has finally been addressed.

The issue, which caused a strong foul odor and posed significant health risks to the residents, arose when a drainage chamber broke, allowing sewage to flow into the stormwater drain and the stream.

After weeks of complaints and continuous follow-up from local residents, the ward office and drainage department took action.

}The blocked drainage system has now been fully repaired, and the stream has been thoroughly cleaned, alleviating the health concerns of the community.

Residents who had suffered from the foul stench caused by the drainage water have finally found some relief.

According to reports, garbage and drainage water were seen accumulating in large quantities in the stream, but previous complaints were ignored by authorities.

It wasn’t until a report appeared in newspaper that the administration took notice, prompting swift action to resolve the issue.

Local resident Yogesh Shelar, who had been actively pursuing the matter, expressed his relief, stating, “The administration has finally taken action, and our continuous follow-ups have succeeded. We are thankful to media and the administration.”

Recently, Bharati Vidyapeeth Police had successfully arrested a thief involved in snatching expensive mobile phones from pedestrians engaged in phone conversations in Katraj Lake area.

The accused, Azhar Alam Ansari, 21, a resident of Katraj, was apprehended along with his minor accomplice. The police have confiscated seven high-value mobile phones from them, amounting to ₹1,85,000.
