Pune: To address the ongoing traffic congestion at Viman Nagar Chowk, local authorities are considering the implementation of a circular traffic system, which includes the removal of traffic signals between Viman Nagar and Somnath Nagar.
According to MLA Sunil Tingre, the police have recommended the removal of a 300-meter stretch of the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) route in the area and have communicated this to the municipal corporation.
MLA Sunil Tingre said that he has been consistently following up on the removal of the BRT route to solve the traffic congestion issue on Nagar Road.
In the first phase, the BRT route between Yerawada and Viman Nagar Chowk was removed at the end of last year, which significantly eased traffic congestion on this route. Recently, police and municipal officials have been approached to remove the remaining BRT route from Viman Nagar Chowk to Kharadi.
In response, the Pune Municipal Commissioner Dr Rajendra Bhosale instructed the traffic police to issue a letter on this matter. Accordingly, the traffic police, in the first phase, have requested the removal of the BRT route between Viman Nagar Chowk and Somnath Nagar Chowk, as it is causing traffic congestion and frequent accidents.
The then Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Police, Rohidas Pawar, sent a letter to the municipal corporation regarding this. Therefore, MLA Sunil Tingre has urged the municipal commissioner to immediately remove this BRT route as per the police's suggestion to solve the traffic congestion at Viman Nagar Chowk.
