Two men who were sitting nearby became irritated when the car's headlights shone on them and began abusing Dubey and Shukla. The journalists parked the car and questioned why the men were swearing, which escalated the situation.

The two men called in two more individuals, and the four of them began physically assaulting Dubey and Shukla. They struck them multiple times, aiming for the stomach, head, and back.

During the altercation, one of the attackers attempted to snatch Dubey’s gold chain. Although the chain broke and remained stuck in Dubey's jacket, the assailants successfully took a pendant worth ₹45,000.
