Pune: Rumors have been circulating in Pimpri-Chinchwad city that Vishal Agarwal, father of the minor involved in the Porsche accident case, had escaped from police custody. However, Pimpri-Chinchwad police have finally broken their silence on the matter.
"Vishal Agarwal is in our custody and is safe. The message circulating on social media is false and is a result of mischief," said Senior Police Inspector Kanhaiya Thorat of Hinjawadi Police Station.
The police also explained why they maintained secrecy about Agarwal's arrest. The incident has put the Pimpri-Chinchwad police under scrutiny, and there are talks of a high-level inquiry into the matter.
Vishal Agarwal was arrested on Tuesday for defrauding society members in Bavdhan, Pune. He was presented in court and remanded to police custody for three days.
During this period, a message claiming "Vishal Agarwal escaped from police custody" went viral on social media. This prompted the police to clarify the situation.

"Vishal Agarwal has been arrested for defrauding society members in Bavdhan. He was taken into custody with court permission from the Pune police.
The rumor that he escaped from police custody is false and mischievous. Vishal Agarwal is in our custody. Some journalists were aware of this," stated Senior Police Inspector Kanhaiya Thorat.
