Pune: Various organisations have taken initiatives to increase the voting percentage in urban areas. Those who have voted will be given a discount of Rs 50 on the purchase of one liter of engine oil at the petrol pump and 10 percent discount on the bill of food in the hotel.
The office bearers of the organisations appealed to Puneites to take an active part in this festival of democracy.
Various organisations took the initiative to increase the voting percentage and spoke to reporters on Monday.
Vishal Nalkare, Rohit Narha and Sameer Khare of Pune Nagarik Manch, Suhas Patwardhan of Pune District Housing Society and Apartments Federation, Dhruv Ruparel of Petrol Dealers Association, Raje Shastra of Art of Living, Ganesh Shetty of Pune Restaurants and Hotels Association, Amit Kumar Sharma of Pune Hotel Association, Ranjit Naiknavare of CREDAI explained the role of the organizations on voter awareness.
"We are making concerted efforts to increase the voting percentage in the city. Senior citizens associations, mahila mandals, laughter clubs and housing societies have been added to the campaign.
Patwardhan said efforts have been on for three months to increase the voting of senior citizens in housing cooperatives. For this, 'Sahakar Mitras' have been appointed at the society level. Social media is also being used.
Ruparel said that those who have voted will be given free petrol worth Rs 50 if they buy one liter of engine oil at a petrol pump.
Also, people exercising their right to vote will be given a 10 per cent discount on food bills in hotels, Shetty said. The discount will be available at hotels and pumps that are members of the association.
Selfie point and 'war room'
All these organisations will set up selfie points at various polling places. A 'war room' will be set up at the society level. Representatives of the associations said a poster competition will also be held.
