Pune: Residents and officials of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) housing scheme in Wadgaon Khurd have been using the designated DP road behind their buildings as a private parking area. This unauthorized usage has reportedly been overlooked by municipal authorities.

The Wadgaon Khurd project consists of eight buildings, each housing 140 apartments, accommodating around 2,000 to 3,000 residents. These residents and society officials have illegally parked their vehicles on the planned DP road without seeking any approval from the relevant authorities.

The main gate of the project is adjacent to this road, which is currently subject to a court dispute. Consequently, residents have been using the back gate for access. The court ruling on the road dispute is expected soon, which might reopen the road for traffic, but despite this, residents continue to encroach on the space.

Immediate action is being demanded to address this encroachment. Attempts to contact Uday Patil, the manager of the PMAY housing scheme, were unsuccessful.

Key Points:

  • Society officials and members have illegally parked vehicles on the municipal DP road behind the project.

  • Residents have blatantly disregarded regulations by parking on the road without permission from the municipal administration.

  • The municipal authorities have not taken any action against this unauthorized parking.

If unauthorized parking on the DP road continues, "No Parking" signs will be installed, and the society's gate adjacent to the DP road will be closed. Legal action will be taken against those who park illegally. - Naresh Raikar, Deputy Engineer, Road Department.
