Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation's Water Supply Department has announced that the evening water supply will be suspended on Thursday, October 17, due to essential maintenance and repair work at the Sector 23 water purification plant in Nigdi.

According to Pramod Ombhase, Chief Engineer of the Water Supply Department, the maintenance will involve replacing the inlet gate of the filter house in Phase 2 of the water purification plant, as well as installing and replacing critical valves in both Phase 1 and Phase 2.

While the morning water supply on Thursday will proceed as per the usual schedule, residents are advised that there will be no water supply in the evening.

The water supply on Friday will resume but will be irregular and delivered at a lower pressure than usual, due to the completion of necessary water and electrical system repairs.

The Water Supply Department has urged residents to make necessary arrangements by storing enough water in advance and using it cautiously during this period.

Water Supply Challenges Persist for Five Years

For the last five years, Pimpri-Chinchwad has been receiving water on an alternate-day basis under the city's equitable water distribution policy. Water is supplied to the city from the Pavana and Andra dams in Maval.

Currently, 510 million liters per day (MLD) is sourced from Pavana, 80 MLD from Andra, and 20 MLD from MIDC, making a total supply of 610 MLD. However, about 40% of this supply is lost due to leakages and theft.

The issue has been highlighted by the administration for the past five years, but a concrete solution to prevent water loss has yet to be implemented. Consequently, the water supply remains irregular, insufficient, and at low pressure, even on the designated supply days.
