Pune: In a disturbing incident in Dattanagar, Ambegaon, a woman was allegedly assaulted and nearly killed by her husband after questioning him about spending money on alcohol instead of their sick child's medical needs. The daughter had been suffering from a fever, cold, and cough for the past eight days.
The victim, identified as Sayali Mayur Kalambekar, filed a complaint at Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station. The police have arrested her husband, Mayur Surendra Kalambekar, following the incident that occurred on Friday night around 9:30 PM.
According to the police, the complainant has three daughters. Her husband, Mayur, works as a laborer and is addicted to alcohol. He regularly harasses her after consuming alcohol. On August 23, as usual, Mayur came home drunk at around 9:30 PM.
Their daughter, Sambhavi, had been ill with a fever, cold, and cough for the past eight days. However, due to a lack of money, she could not be taken to the hospital. When the complainant questioned her husband about having money for alcohol but not for their daughter’s medical care, Mayur became angry.
He then asked who had provided a new gas cylinder for the house. The complainant replied that the gas cylinder had run out six days ago, and since he had not replaced it, her mother had given them a new one.
This response enraged Mayur, and he verbally abused and physically assaulted her. He then grabbed her head and banged it against the wall two to three times, injuring her, and threatened to kill her.
The police have arrested the husband, and Bharti Vidyapeeth Police are investigating the case.
