Woman Dies from Abortion Pills Administered by Husband

Pune: In a harrowing incident reported from Moi village in Khed Taluka, a 31-year-old man has been arrested for the death of his wife, allegedly due to the pills he administered to her to induce an abortion.

The tragedy unfolded on September 5, when the victim, who was two months pregnant, suffered severe bleeding and ultimately died.

Shivraj Mannappa Rathod, a resident of Sonapurta Tanda, Taluka Sorapur, District Yadgir, Karnataka, has been taken into custody by Mahalunge MIDC Police.

The arrest followed a complaint filed by Sachin Dharmanaik Chavan, a relative of the deceased, at the local police station.

According to the police report, Shivraj Rathod was married to the victim, a 27-year-old woman, in 2021. Rathod had been involved in an extramarital affair with a local woman, which led him to subject his wife to physical and mental abuse.

He reportedly demanded financial support from her family, including money and gold, and kept her in a state of deprivation and distress.

The couple relocated from their native village in Karnataka to Moi in Khed Taluka. Upon discovering his wife's pregnancy, Rathod allegedly provided her with pills to terminate the pregnancy.

The resulting complications led to significant blood loss and her untimely death. Police Sub-Inspector Jaybhaye is handling the investigation into this grave matter.
