Pune: A tragic incident unfolded in Mangalwar Peth area of Pune city, where a woman, driven to desperation by her husband's harassment, fatally stabbed herself with a kitchen knife. The police have arrested the husband in connection with the case.

The deceased woman has been identified as Poornima, also known as Sonal Vicky Kambale (33, residing at Bolai Khana, Mangalwar Peth). Her husband, Vicky Shankar Kambale (38), has been taken into custody on charges of provoking her to commit suicide.

Poornima's mother, Lakshmi Gyaneshwar Sonawane (54, residing near Gopi Medical, Mangalwar Peth), lodged a complaint with the Faraskhana Police Station.

According to the complaint, Vicky had been tormenting Poornima over suspicions regarding her character. He would verbally abuse and physically assault her. On July 22, around 11:30 AM, Vicky had a heated argument with Poornima, during which he abused and beat her.

Following this, Poornima, overwhelmed by distress, used a kitchen knife to inflict serious injuries on herself. She was rushed to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Lakshmi Sonawane has alleged that her daughter's suicide was a direct result of the harassment inflicted by her husband. Assistant Police Inspector Vaibhav Gaikwad is investigating the case.
