Pune: The Higher and Technical Education Department of Maharashtra has planned a workshop to promote awareness about women's safety laws among female students in colleges and hostels across the state.

The workshop, titled "Women’s Safety and Scholarships," aims to equip female students with essential knowledge about legal protections and their educational rights.

On September 20, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) will host the Pune division's workshop. The State's Higher and Technical Education Minister, Chandrakant Patil, will officially inaugurate the event. This workshop is part of a broader initiative to promote safety and legal education for women in higher education institutions.

The event will take place at the new auditorium of the Iravati Karve Social Sciences Complex within the university. Principal Secretary of the Higher and Technical Education Department, Vikaschandra Rastogi, will also be present as a keynote speaker.

The one-day workshop will cover several important topics, including the Vishakha Guidelines, which provide legal frameworks for addressing sexual harassment in workplaces, the Prevention of Sexual Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, 2013, and relevant guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Additionally, there will be discussions on recommended safety measures in women's hostels to ensure a secure environment for female students.

The workshop is part of a series of state-wide efforts aimed at educating women on their legal rights and ensuring their safety in educational institutions.
