Pune: In a violent incident in Ganesh Peth, Pune, a motorist driving in the wrong direction allegedly assaulted a motorcyclist with a metal rod around midnight on Friday (November 22).
The Khadak Police have registered a case against the motorist and his associates based on the complaint filed by the injured motorcyclist, identified as Ranjit Kishor Shinde, age 28, a resident of Ganj Peth.
According to police sources, Shinde and his wife had gone to a hospital and were returning home around 12:30 a.m. on their motorcycle through Ganesh Peth.
As they were riding, they encountered a motorist approaching in the wrong direction. When Shinde pointed out the traffic violation to the motorist, a heated exchange ensued, during which the motorist, along with his companions, verbally abused Shinde.
The confrontation escalated as the motorist and his associates brutally attacked Shinde, striking him in the head with a hard object. The assault resulted in a serious head injury for Shinde, who then filed a formal complaint at Khadak Police Station.
Following the incident, Police Constable Parkhe initiated an investigation. City police are actively pursuing enforcement measures against traffic violators, with a particular focus on wrong-way drivers.
Over the last five months, police have taken action against more than 70,000 individuals for driving in the wrong direction, underscoring ongoing efforts to improve road safety in Pune.
